The truth about “thickening” your hair.
This is something I hear all the time:
“I just want to thicken my hair.”
And I understand it because when your hair starts to feel finer, it can change how you feel about yourself.
But here’s the part most people aren’t told:
You can’t permanently thicken a hair strand once it’s already grown.
Let me explain this simply…
The strand you see is already dead.
Once it leaves the scalp, it can’t change its structure.
So no product can go in and permanently make that strand thicker from within.
What products can do is change how the hair behaves.
They can:
- soften it
- smooth it
- reduce dryness
- improve flexibility
- add body
And that can absolutely make the hair feel fuller.
But it’s important to understand, that’s not the same as changing the actual diameter of the strand.
So why does hair feel thinner?
When someone says:
“My hair used to be thicker”
They’re usually right.
But what’s changing is the follicle, not the strand.
Over time, the follicle can start producing finer, weaker hairs.
This is called miniaturisation.
And it can be influenced by:
- hormones
- DHT sensitivity
- inflammation
- stress
- nutrient imbalances
- overall scalp health
So the real question becomes:
Why is the follicle producing a thinner hair?
What most “thickening” products are doing?
Most products work on the surface of the hair.
They:
- coat the strand
- create temporary bulk
- give that “fuller” feeling
There’s nothing wrong with that, just know it’s temporary and over time that can lead to buildup.
Buildup can weigh the hair down, dull the shine, and even affect how your scalp functions if it accumulates at the root.
Where Ellà Viè fits in?
This is where I want to be very clear.
Ellà Viè wasn’t created to artificially coat the hair or create a heavy, false thickness.
But what many people notice is:
their hair feels softer, has more movement, and more body.
And there’s a reason for that.
When the hair is:
- hydrated
- supported with lightweight oils
- not weighed down with buildup
- and the scalp is more balanced
The strand behaves differently.
It moves better. It separates better. It reflects light better.
Which can give the appearance of fuller, healthier hair.
At the same time, the focus is always on supporting the scalp, because that’s where long-term change happens.
Where real change actually happens?
If you want stronger, thicker hair long term, it starts at the follicle.
That means:
- supporting blood flow
- reducing inflammation
- keeping the scalp environment healthy
- addressing internal factors when needed
Because the follicle determines:
- how thick the hair grows
- how strong it is
- how long it stays in its growth phase
